The Framework of Sorting Along a Single Trait Without Singles

Abstract

So far, the readers of this book have no reason to think that certain indicators and methods listed in Sects. 5.1 and 5.2 are better suited at capturing the degree of sorting than some others. By proceeding with this book, they will come to realize that certain analytical tools indeed outperform their counterparts. As one of the next steps in this intellectual journey, we make a series of “apple-to-apple” and “pear-to-pear” comparisons among the tools. In particular, we will compare analytical tools that meet the necessary condition for the comparability of using the same set of information to characterize the degree of sorting.
