Abstract

The primary aim of this article is to examine the influence of socio-economic variables on the development of the total fertility rate in European countries. The study focuses specifically on the countries with the highest level of fertility rates, namely France, Romania, and Czechia. The study employs dynamic regression analysis of time series to analyze the relationships between the dependent variable (total fertility rate) and independent variables from different categories such as social, economic, and cultural factors. Social variables in the model are represented by the availability of social protection for families and children. The economic variables are represented by GDP per capita and the unemployment rate. Cultural variables represent the religiosity of the population, and demographic variables represent the total fertility rate. To conduct the study, data is collected from the Eurostat database. Although all examined countries have total fertility rates at a similar level, the analysis reveals that the factors that significantly influence the trend tend to differ.
