Abstract

The following four elements fully define a panel: 1. The universe of a panel is a set of elements information is needed. Its size and its structure define it. 2. The sample is a set of elements from the universe from which data are collected. It is defined by its size, how the sample elements are selected from the universe, and how the total sample size is divided among the different parts of the universe. 3. The data collection is about getting the data of interest from the sampled elements. Different methods (questioning, electronic procedures, observation) are used. 4. Extrapolation represents the conclusion from a sample result to the corresponding value of the universe. These four elements are described in more detail.
