Abstract

In health science evaluation refers to a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the benefits and costs of healthcare technology. In practise, different forms of evaluation have become established. They all deal with the basic question: How can health and its changes be assessed? Moreover, the evaluation procedures reveal many similarities in the definition and assessment of health. However, many of the techniques are separated based on their problem orientation and their theoretical basis. This chapter focuses on different methods of health economic evaluation, preference measurement, evidence-based medicine, health systems research and health technology assessment.
