Abstract

The characteristics, culture, managerial experiences and organizational structure of the companies play important roles in the success of the projects that they are undertaking. We investigate project management from organizations’ perspective in this chapter. First we introduce the characteristics of the different organizational structures, define organizational culture. Then we focus on project-based organizations, emphasize the importance of stakeholder management and discuss the responsibilities of project teams and managers. In addition to project management, program and portfolio management are discussed with details. The coordination of project/program/portfolio management practices through project management offices is investigated. Finally basic characteristics of agile project management are discussed.
