Abstract

Make-to-order production is of particular interest for construction and manufacturing in small batches such as residential houses, highways, high-rise buildings, railway cars, ships, and capital goods manufacturing. The project management literature contains numerous resource constrained project scheduling studies that provide insight into scheduling in this type of construction/manufacturing. We describe the basic characteristics of repetitive projects and make an analogy with production systems. The total cost of the projects is formulated in several ways using the direct and indirect cost items. Using these functions, we develop mathematical models for scheduling repetitive projects, and present a real-life case study.
