Abstract

Setting aside the all-too-famous Keynes, this introduction presents the life of Jacques Rueff (1896–1978) who was a financial bureaucrat in the French Ministry of Finance, as well as a university lecturer, and whose legacy of achievements in philosophy and economics has been described as “Newtonian.” Both Rueff and Keynes were financial bureaucrats in their home countries but Rueff differs from Keynes in that he was also a dedicated university professor during his entire career as a financial bureaucrat.
