Abstract

This chapter analyzes Marx’s value-form theory of money, deriving money from the exchange process and the labor theory of value. Money emerges as a universal equivalent that expresses the value of commodities and resolves contradictions in exchange. Marx defines money as a commodity with intrinsic value determined by labor, emphasizing its role as a medium of exchange and store of value. This chapter traces the evolution from simple exchange to the money form, highlighting the social relations embedded in money. Marx’s theory combines metallism with a broader social analysis of value and exchange.
