Abstract

Sport entrepreneurship is an emerging research phenomenon that attracts the interest of scholars around the world to investigate its innovative features in different social and cultural contexts that influence the actions of policymakers and entrepreneurs. In this chapter, the focus of inquiry is confined, from a geopolitical point of view to countries in the Southern European geographical area. In particular, we analyze, first from a bibliometric point of view and then in more detail, the main topics that constitute the structural and cognitive model of the research domain related to sport entrepreneurship in the countries of the Southern European geographical area. Emerging themes that link studies related to this topic include sponsorship, entrepreneurial orientation, management of periods of economic crisis, and the role of technology users and their contribution to innovation. Finally, we offer insights for future research and food for thought for researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and managers engaged in the field of entrepreneurship and sport innovation.
