Abstract

We have in Chap. 4 explored the origins of the natural orderNatural order, the philosophical foundation of the entire Physiocratic system. From this chapter onwards, we will examine the relationship between the various important economic theories of PhysiocracyPhysiocracy and ancient Chinese thought. Most perplexing in this regard is the origin of the Tableau ÉconomiqueTableau Économique, the focus of this chapter. After a look at the crucial position of the Tableau in Western economics, we will carry out an analysis about its Chinese and Western origins, before we make a comparison between the two.
