Abstract

Sustainable finance is essential for transitioning the world to net zero by 2050, and a record USD 4.7 trillion in sustainable debt instruments were issued in 2024. Yet most of this money is channelled into developed countries. Leaving the emerging markets that are most vulnerable to climate change facing large funding shortfalls. This paper argues the liberal thoughts on the financial spending panorama from an Indian perspective while arguing that channelling sustainable finance where needed most will maximise real-world impact. The study further elaborates and comprehends the legal fragments of what India has offered and what is yet to be delivered. The study justifies the rationale of the drivers of innovation’s need to standardise, catalyse and democratise green and sustainable finance and unlock real impact, by rugging the global insights and comprehending policy debacle in India.
