Marginalization

Abstract

The seventh way people practice politicking is marginalization. This is a highly significant consequence of the rational use of reason. The scientific revolution had an important and poorly recognized side-effect, in that it was used to marginalize those seen to be less rational than the scientists themselves. This included women, environmentalists, the poor, First Nations, one-time colonials, and the religious. All of them pushed back, using the different ways of practicing politicking to do so, like force, law, the creation of common ground, class solidarity, and the promotion of different ideas, values, and norms.
