A Bibliometric Analysis of the Impact of Digitalization on Acceptance of FinTech Services

Abstract

Over the course of the last decade, the field of “financial services” has undergone significant transformation in response to the influence of technology. This has resulted in the redesign, delivery, and consumption of “financial services” being fundamentally altered. The rapid expansion of mobile and internet usage, along with the affordability of data services, has facilitated the accelerated “digitalization” of economies globally. This transformation has been further propelled by the emergence of “FinTech”, “artificial intelligence”, “machine learning”, and “blockchain”. The implementation of COVID-19-induced lockdown measures has expedited the process of digitalizing “financial services”. This study aims to delineate the primary domains and prevailing trends within the realms of “financial services”, “FinTech services”, and “digitalization”, while also proposing potential avenues for future research to analyse the impact of “digitalization” on acceptance of the above-mentioned services. The present study employs a “bibliometric analysis” to investigate a representative sample of 583 articles published in Scopus journals between 1984 and 2021. The key themes found include (1) The “Regulatory Framework for FinTech and Digital Financial Services”, (2) “The Significance of Technology in Facilitating the Digital Transformation of Financial Services”, (3) “Digital financial inclusion”, and (4) “The adoption of technology in digital financial services”. In conclusion, we propose potential avenues for future research within the domain.
