Abstract

Many policy areas, such as social policy, span across multiple government agencies and require effective collaboration to meet strategic priorities in public service delivery. This is a complex challenge that necessitates a cultural shift within government organisations to facilitate cohesive efforts and achieve established policy objectives. In this context, the exploration of innovative experiences of “deliverology” such CompStat in US cities, Blair’s Delivery Unit and its successors in the UK, and the Results Programmes in New Zealand are worth examining; as these approaches are known to be some of the best. Their exploration elucidates the methodologies employed by each country and traces their evolution over the past two decades, alongside the lessons learned. The analysis examines the prevalent incentives within various political systems and highlights the necessity of dismantling organisational silos and integrating metrics into a unified dashboard. The analysis also focuses on strategies to align different government agencies in achieving outcomes that are meaningful to citizens, promote resource alignment and collaboration, and incorporate innovative practices to enhance overall effectiveness.
