Abstract

This book chapter sets out to explore the smart innovations that proliferated within the context of India by effective integration of technology to offer digital solutions in the domain of agriculture. More specifically, the chapter provides background information on the context, the agriculture sector, relevance of various stakeholders, emergence of an entrepreneurial ecosystem and the growth of agritech firms in the country. In doing so, 100 agritech firms were selected based on the inclusion criteria, and secondary data analysis was progressed using qualitative content analysis. Results obtained highlighted various opportunities and challenges linked to the growth of agritech firms, which prioritised the development of smart innovative solutions in India. Opportunities identified were linked to the main themes of sophistication, sustainability, sourcing and scalability, and challenges were linked to the thematic categories of funding, integration, replication and hesitancy. The chapter also outlines important implications for practice and policy improvement.
