Abstract

In today’s hyper-competitive and digitally evolving landscape, supply chain performance is no longer a backend operational concern but a strategic differentiator—particularly in Asia’s dynamic entrepreneurial markets. This chapter presents a benchmarking framework tailored for Indian enterprises, emphasizing how operational efficiency rooted in financial data can drive sustainable growth, innovation, and entrepreneurial scalability. Focusing on five vital industries—Automotive, Electronics, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, and Food & Beverage—this study analyzes 10 leading firms from each sector (totaling 50 companies) over a 10-year period, offering a longitudinal perspective rarely captured in Asian entrepreneurship research. By introducing three original supply chain indicators—Total Length of Chain (aggregate inventory days), Supply Chain Inefficiency Ratio (cost-to-sales), and Supply Chain Working Capital Productivity (sales-to-capital efficiency)—the study benchmarks firm performance and captures strategic shifts across two key sub-periods. The findings reveal significant inter- and intra-industry variations in supply chain efficiency, highlighting top performers such as Hyundai, BEL, Manipal Hospitals, Sun Pharma, and ITC. These companies exemplify how data-driven operational strategies can enhance market competitiveness, resource utilization, and entrepreneurial agility. Aligned with the book’s mission to uncover new entrepreneurial opportunities in Asia, this chapter showcases how financial statement-driven benchmarking can empower startups, SMEs, and large firms alike to identify inefficiencies, adopt best practices, and strengthen resilience. The study contributes to both academic discourse and managerial practice by offering actionable insights and advocating for greater transparency, strategic benchmarking, and digital adaptation within Asia’s evolving entrepreneurial ecosystems.
