Reimagining Project Management Methodologies: A Holistic Co-creation Model

This research explores the ever-changing world of project management and the challenges associated with the notion that a single project management approach can fit all projects, highlighting the need to use a method that is not only adaptable but attuned to the unique context of each project, that is, which consider variables like industry norms, cultural influences, and the pace of technological progress. This research emphasises the importance of incorporating co-design practices and fostering collaborative environments, especially in higher education curriculum design. This research demonstrates the need for a flexible approach to curriculum design and project management to increase the likelihood of success. It identifies project management factors essential to successfully apply project management principles in settings characterised by innovation in education and change, shedding light on the shortcomings of the conventional ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach in today’s rapidly changing educational environment. The chapter develops a holistic framework that can be tailored to the specific needs of each project, including when bespoke co-design practices, collaborative methods, and a focus on human-centric approaches are required to ensure project success. This method, specifying six principles, is designed to help improve project outcomes, particularly in education. We completed a comparison between Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and our proposed principles to showcase that our proposed principles are more dynamic and suitably agile when improving curricula.
