Abstract
In the quest for sustainable organizational practices, the cultivation of environmental championsenvironmental champions among employees emerges as a pivotal strategy. This conceptual chapter endeavors to elucidate the intricate interplay between environmental, social, and governanceEnvironmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and the development of employee green behavioremployee green behavior within organizational contexts. Drawing on Social Cognitive Theory, it identifies how ESG principles shape employees’ actions, with leadership and organizational culture playing central roles in fostering environmental stewardship. The chapter offers a theoretical framework illustrating how ESG principles can drive actionable employee behavioremployee behaviors and provides practical insights for enhancing engagement in sustainability initiativessustainability initiatives, fostering a workforce committed to environmental stewardship. It argues that organizations with strong governance structures and clear sustainability goals are better equipped to create environments conducive to green behavior. Additionally, it emphasizes the mediating effects of leadership and organizational culture, positioning leaders as key drivers in modeling sustainable behaviorsustainable behaviors and embedding a culture of sustainability. The discussion provides actionable insights for practitioners, focusing on the operationalization of ESG principles to enhance employee engagementemployee engagement in sustainability initiativessustainability initiatives, thereby fostering a workforce committed to environmental stewardship.
