Abstract

With global supply chains becoming ever more complex, there is a need for a stable and resilient manner of exchanging data between partner organisations. Blockchain (BC) has been adopted in that regard by numerous organisations with a view to mitigating against a number of potential shocks, and to creating sustainable environmental value. This chapter reviews the current use of Blockchain (BC) technology in the development of supply chains with the aim of making them both resilient and sustainable. Following these principles, a framework is offered for the implementation of the technology in a supply chain that offers positive sustainability benefits. The chapter then discusses a range of applications for BC in a sustainable supply chain that may prove to be worthwhile for both practitioners and academics in the field.
