Abstract

No one would have imagined that the lives of people from all around the world would be disrupted by a sudden COVID-19 pandemic. The new coronavirus has swept across all corners of the world. Many industries are facing serious crises, especially the tourism industry, which relies heavily on connected transportation. Factors such as flight volume, hotel occupancy rate, total market transaction volume and profits of tourism-related industry companies are all affected. This work analyzes the annual and monthly changes in tourism indicators in the year 2020, summarizes the impact of the epidemic on the tourism industry and provides suggestions on how to recover the tourism industry during the epidemic from small to large countries. On a global scale, many countries have implemented measures in the year 2020, and travel restrictions and isolation regulations are imposed. As the epidemic continues to spread, various countries began to take anti-pandemic measures, and we see flight volume began to decrease significantly. The search for flight, number of bookings and occupancy rate of tourism-related industry companies like hotels has shown an abrupt downward trend. The global tourism industry is in a downturn. Singapore’s geographical location is superior, and tourism is an industry that has been actively promoted. It develops convention and exhibition tourism and attempts to make Singapore a Garden City and Shopping Paradise. Singapore became one of the most popular tourist destinations in Asia. Prior to the pandemic, Singapore's tourism industry's revenue was mainly derived from tourists from countries like China, India, Malaysia and Australia. After the outbreak of the epidemic in 2020, movement control measures led to Singapore losing most of its important international tourism income. This presents great uncertainty, what the next step forward for the tourism industry should be.
