Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of the manufacturing transformation through the lens of the IT and Industrial revolution waves. Further, we look into each cornerstone of the global trends of manufacturing and attempt to answer how Industry 4.0 evolved and where it will take us next. In addition, this chapter also comprehensively reviews the impact of Industry 4.0 in four main areas of the industrial systems: product, process, business model, and skills requirement. After understanding the implications and trends of manufacturing, we provided several possible scenarios for future manufacturing.
