Abstract

This chapter tries to explore the influence of Pakistan’s political mechanism on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Through analyzing Pakistan’s political structure and its decisive role in the allocation of resources and by establishing the correlation between revenue distribution and terrorist activities, it demonstrates that the most-populated province Punjab, by virtue of its largest political representation, has been benefited the most in sharing the fiscal resources. Such one-province-dominates-all phenomenon has contributed to uneven socio-economic development between regions, which fosters a breeding ground for instability. This chapter argues that it is advisable for China to be more aware of the impacts its investments may cause and Pakistan shall also ensure a relatively fair distribution of CPEC resources, since the corridor’s implementation should be a drive to promote local development instead of exacerbating the gap between provinces.
