Abstract

When WN was published in 1776, it was immediately translated into German (1776) and French (1778) and other languages (Table 3); many countries had more than three versions (also Table 3). From the perspective of cross-nation transmission, Yan Fu’s version (1902) was a late part of this “WN spread movement”. To understand better the significance of WN in the Chinese world, we need a broader perspective.
