Abstract

Zusammenfassung Seit 2009 ist China der größte Handelspartner Brasiliens und sein wichtigster Verbündeter. Die nationalistische Rechte, die die Wahlen 2018 gewonnen hat, hat jedoch eine kritische Sicht auf das Land. In diesem Kapitel werden die Ansichten der neuen brasilianischen Regierung zu China dargestellt, und zwar sowohl in Bezug auf wirtschaftliche Argumente (Protektionismus der Industrie, Angst vor der chinesischen Kontrolle über die Infrastruktur und die natürlichen Ressourcen) als auch in Bezug auf politische Bedenken (Wunsch nach einer diplomatischen Annäherung an die Vereinigten Staaten und antikommunistische Feindseligkeit gegenüber Peking). In diesem Kapitel wird angeführt, dass diese Positionen für die außenpolitische Entscheidungsfindung wichtig sind und die Beziehungen zu China erschweren, dass aber auch gemäßigtere Ansichten anderer Gruppen in der Verwaltung berücksichtigt werden müssen.
