Abstract

In this chapter, we develop hypotheses that predict the relationship between organizational controls and goal polychronicity. While there is a large body of literature on organizational controls and organizational goals, there is limited understanding of the interaction of organizational controls and the multiple organizational goals that the organizational controls are intended to achieve. We believe it is important to extend the understanding of multiple goals to be more inclusive of organizational control as an explanation of the strategic choices that organizations make regarding the management of multiple goals; in this research, the degree to which goals are simultaneously managed (goal polychronicity).
