Abstract

This chapter provides COVID-19 context and the macroeconomic challenges to integrate gender perspectives in policymaking. Extraordinary times require extraordinary policy responses. In the time of COVID-19 pandemic, with the widespread lockdowns, women have disproportionately borne the socio-economic brunt of the pandemic. With many governments preparing public finance strategies for the post-pandemic fiscal year, the concluding chapter highlights that we now have a renewed opportunity to strengthen gender budgeting as an effective public finance management tool to redress these mounting inequalities.
