Abstract

This chapter assesses the dynamic capabilities and productivity of ICT firms by analyzing survey data collected in two-time periods, 2009 and 2020. The analysis shows that the share of exports for ICT firms has declined, but the increase in sales by domestic firms was significant to the rise in industry revenues. Furthermore, overall, the ICT firms performed well during the pandemic, which can be attributed to the government’s initiatives for Digital Bangladesh. The results suggest that the productivity of larger and older firms has increased over time. Additionally, export-oriented firms are also more productive than non-export-oriented firms. It is found that resource configuration capability and resource acquisition capability have contributed to enhanced productivity of export-oriented firms while learning and marketing network capabilities did not make any significant difference. Therefore, it is essential to focus more on dynamic capabilities and building market linkages for the overall development of the IT industry.
