Abstract

The public administration system of Nigeria has undergone series of administrative reforms over the years. This study investigates the public administration structure and practices in Nigeria with the various issues related to historical anticedents, governance, intergovernmental relations, civil society, public personnel system, and policy reforms in Nigeria. The study concludes that, the Nigerian public administration as largely a colonial and military legacy which has undergone several reforms over the years, especially with the advent of democratic system of governance in 1999. However, despite several reforms, public administration in Nigeria still faces some fundamental challenges. This study adds to the existing literature in understanding public administration in Nigeria and the need for necessary reforms in order to increase its capacity for effective policy making.
