Abstract

The term spirituality is often misinterpreted and seen as similar to religion, certain views, moral standards, and traditions. In its simplest form, spirituality is not structured or organised like religion in general. Spirituality derives from the Latin word ‘spiritus’, which means a vital breath. Spirit is an unseen power that breathes life into our bodies, animates us, and provides energy. The spirit assists us in defining truth, our real identity inside ourselves, and validates our uniqueness. Religion, on the other hand, derives from the Latin word ‘religio’, which implies trust or connection. Religion generally represents a person’s spiritual path; it is an old system for invisible powers.
