Abstract

SMEs form the backbone of UAE’s economy due to their contribution to growth, innovation, and job creation. The Government is taking a significant role in establishing initiatives and programs to develop an SME-friendly business environment. However, SMEs face numerous challenges and obstacles in raising funds, obstructing their development and growth. This chapter highlights the difficulties of SMEs in accessing finance and analyzes the availability of the potential sources of capital. This analysis will help the SMEs’ owners enlarge their insight into accessible potential financing sources other than conventional bank lending. Further, this chapter derives public policy recommendations for helping to resolve various challenges in facilitating SMEs’ access to finance.
