Abstract

To enhance the quality of care, hospital administrators should invest more in their employees, especially nurses, as the frontline workers who provide direct care to clients. However, training and development may not be a top concern for hospital managers or human resource managers. Therefore, many nurses and nurse managers face pressing issues, such as quality improvement, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and enhancing staff competence. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the roles of all nurses to be skilled in critical care, respiratory distress, and infection prevention. This chapter aims to discuss the concept and steps for the training and development of nurses in hospitals. Barriers and challenges are raised for consideration, followed by recommendations to overcome these issues.
