Abstract

It is no secret that the healthcare industry faced enormous nursing shortages even before the COVID-19 pandemic. Healthcare organizations, including hospitals, have been struggling to solve the problems, and the need for nurses has been so great during the pandemic. Human resource managers and nursing managers work very hard to deal with the recruitment and selection of nurses. Many nurses have come out of retirement to fill the gaps. Hiring new nurses is an expensive and time-consuming process so they need to ensure the right individuals are selected. This chapter discusses the concepts of recruitment and selection, followed by its concerns and problems for consideration, the role of competence model, and recommendations to hire the top talent nurses in the new normal era.
