Abstract

The incorporation of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) has sparked interest in building a new era for legal technologies. Particularly, this chapter focuses on five areas of AI implications where the concerted efforts of the World Intellectual Property Organization and several national patent offices have been made: Automatic classification, machine translation, examination and formality checks, image search and recognition, and helpdesk bots. In addition, how legal technologies are making new waves to change the delivery of legal services are discussed.
