Future Outlook of Gaming Tourism in Vietnam: Local Residents’ Perspectives

Abstract

The goal of the study is to first understand local citizens’ opinions and attitudes regarding gaming tourism development, and then to select the most enticing tourist environment in Vietnam. This study is basd on Focus group interviews on 32 residents in Vietnam. Three major results emerged from this study about participants’ attitudes and concerns about increasing gaming tourism in Vietnam. Participants were generally worried about the efficacy of advertising casinos as a tourist destination, believing that the negative social and environmental consequences would exceed the economic benefits of gaming tourism. Because of its natural beauty and rich cultural history, Vietnam should focus on developing ecotourism and cultural tourism, according to the report. The findings show that because Vietnam has a rich cultural history and attractive natural features, as well as a lower emphasis on casino tourism, the country can provide a more diversified tourist product approach. According to the researchers, scenario planning is important in establishing the direction and activities in building tourist landscapes. Cultural tourism and ecotourism are tourism goods worth studying, according to this exploratory research.
