Abstract

When you start a journey, you need to at least know the basics of how your car works (assuming that you drive). Check the fuel, battery, engine oil, and don’t forget the coolant. It’s the stuff that keeps your engine operating at its optimal temperature. Similarly, in data analysis you need to be familiar with the basics of the tools you are going to use to analyse the data. In this chapter, we introduce SPSS to you. This chapter walks you through the three main SPSS windows. These are the data, variable, and syntax windows. Most of the time, you will be working with data and variable windows and rarely venture into syntax. We however, find that syntax is fun. It’s like being able to turn on and off the digital traction control function in some high-performance cars.
