Abstract

Srinivasa Ramanujan’s discoveries continue to have a strong influence on various fields within and outside of mathematics. The launching of The Ramanujan Journal in 1997, devoted to all areas of mathematics influenced by Ramanujan, is a major event in the world of Ramanujan. The growth of this journal is a testimony that the mathematical legacy of Ramanujan is thriving. This article describes how this journal was conceived, why it fills a need, and the place it occupies in the world of mathematics.
