Abstract

We have seen formulas for determining sample size in one and two tailed tests. This gives an idea to the researchers as to how to determine sample size and power using precise mathematical formulas and how these formulas are derived. Chapter 6 and 7 have been developed for the applied researchers who wish to determine sample size or wish to know the power achieved in their experiments for answering their research questions using a statistical software. A common concern amongst researchers is that the sample is predetermined. In which case knowing and reporting the power of the test is very important. This chapter will enable researchers to calculate the power of the test employed in their studies. We have shown computation of power in the first few illustrations in this chapter. By using similar procedures, one can compute the power in other settings as well. In this chapter, we shall discuss the procedure of estimating sample size and power for different statistical tests by using G*Power software.
