Innovative Design of the Sponge City Facilities in Changzhen Depot

Abstract

The sponge city facilities in Changzhen Depot of the Shenzhen Metro Line 6 were laid out in consideration of the depot characteristics, geological and hydrological conditions of the project site, construction period and national and local sponge city construction requirements. Some innovative sponge facilities such as ecoroof, biological wastewater treatment system, bioretention parterre, multipurpose detention pond, Bioretention belt and environment-friendly gully were designed to treat the stormwater of Changzhen Depot and part of the reclaimed water of the Changzhen wastewater treatment plant. The scales and capacities of the sponge city facilities were determined by volumetric method. The demonstration project of sponge city in Changzhen Depot is the first low impact development urban rail transit project in the world. The sponge city design philosophy in Changzhen Depot is beneficial to the construction of green urban rail transit in Shenzhen, even in the whole of China.
