Abstract

A system is a collection of components interconnected to a specific design in order to perform a given task. The reliability of a system depends on the types, quantities, and reliabilities of its components. This chapter discusses some basic ideas behind the analysis of reliability of a system. It derives the distribution and reliability functions of the lifetime of the system as a function of the distribution or reliability functions of the individual component lifetimes.
