The Class of Semi-strict Majority Rules

Abstract

The class of semi-strict majority rules consists of all p-semi-strict majority rules, where p is greater than half and less than one. p-semi-strict majority rule, p greater than half and less than one, is defined by: An alternative x is socially at least as good as another alternative y iff the number of individuals preferring y over x is less than or equal to half of [p (number of individuals nonindifferent between x and y) + $$(1-p)$$ (number of all individuals)]. In the chapter maximally sufficient conditions for transitivity and quasi-transitivity under the class of semi-strict majority rules are derived.
