Abstract

The concepts and techniques of hypothesis testing are introduced in this chapter. The definition and concept of null and alternative hypotheses, rejection and non-rejection of null hypothesis Hypothesis:null one-sided and two-sided tests, test statisticTest statistic , types of error, critical regionCritical region and p-value are discussed with examples. The step-by-step procedures of testing a null hypothesis against an alternative are shown in this chapter. The hypothesis testing procedures are illustrated with examples for single meanMean and single proportion and difference between two means and two proportionsSampling distribution:portions under various situations arising from assumptions about population (normal or non-normal), sample size (small or large), population varianceHypothesis tests:two population variances (known or unknown) and sample sizes equal or unequal in case of two samples. In addition, if the equality of populationPopulation means are tested for correlated data then the paired t test is shown with example. This chapter includes many examples to illustrate the procedures in easy steps.
