Abstract

The force characteristic of a solenoid electromagnet can be significantly changed by inserting ferromagnetic disc in the coil. The optimization of the force characteristic is carried out by varying the position and the dimensions of the disc and seeking maximal initial force. Finite element method has been used for field analysis and force computation. Results have been obtained for solenoid electromagnets with one and two ferromagnetic discs in the coil.
