Abstract

If one equation of a given system of PDEs is a conservation law, the system can be embedded in an auxiliary system. A point symmetry of an auxiliary system yields a nonlocal symmetry of the given system if it does not project onto a point symmetry. A conservation law of a given system of PDEs is an equivalent conservation law if the replacement of a PDE by the conservation law yields a system of PDEs with the same complex solution set as the given system. The problem of finding equivalent conservation laws is considered.
