A Comparative Analysis of Ferry Transport in Norway

Abstract

The trunk road system in Norway has to be supplemented by a number of ferries due to the long coastline with its numerous islands and fjords. There are about 150 ferry distances, serviced by about 250 ferries. In 1988, the cost of running these ferries amounted to about 40% of the maintenance of public roads.
