A Geometrical Continuous Remeshing Procedure for Application to Finite Element Calculation of Non-Steady State Forming Processes

Abstract

Based on an incompressible visco-plastic formulation a finite element program (FORGE2) is used to simulate isothermal forging. Two adaptative remeshing procedures are introduced, in order to achieve very large deformations, a static one and a continuous dynamic one. The two methods presented are applied to the plane strain upsetting and to the plane strain compression test. The results are compared and the advantages of continuous remeshing are discussed.
