The Use of a Tension Parameter in Surface Modeling

Abstract

In this paper, the Nu-spline surface is derived and used to model several complicated machine parts, A Nu-spline is essentially a conventional cubic spline with tension control. Tensions applied at the joints of the curve segments enable the curve to turn around sharp corners without undesirable oscillations. The Nu-spline surface thus can turn around sharp edges without undesirable effects. It is derived on the basis to satisfy the G2-continuity. Several restrictions are imposed to the surface to make it practicable.
