High-speed Loading Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Columns

Abstract

Summary There are two concepts that buildings would be fractured by large earthquakes. One is that buildings would be yielded and fractured gradually by repeated forces of earthquakes. Other is that some parts of buildings would be fractured instantly with impact or high—speed forces occured in buildings by earthquakes. With latter concept, the series of experiments for the fractures of reinforced concrete columns have been done by installing the large actuator with static loadings and high—speed forces. At the same time,static analyses and dynamic analyses for high—speed forces have been performed about experiment modelswith the implicit nonlinear finite element method. For the analytical models, discreted models between steels and concrete elements have been used without considering bond effect and changing the geometrical configurations. Both results were compared.
