Abstract

During the last decade many biological experiments were made to get more insight into the biological behaviour of cells and about cancer (1). In parallel with these experiments mathematicians were stimulated to apply their science to biological questions ((2)–(5)). That means they try to describe the time behaviour of cell interactions by highly nonlinear differential equations of high order. The solutions gained by calcultion or simulation always show the response curve as a function of time. In many cases, however, the influence of feedback loops and the description of the spatial structure of growing cell systems are neglected. Therefore, our task is to investigate how methods of systems analysis control theory and computer science can be applied to cancer problems to answer the question for normal and malignant cell growth in time and space.
