Abstract

Samenvatting Ziekenhuizen worden tegenwoordig uitgedaagd om de beperkte capaciteit aan te passen aan de groeiende vraag. In dit hoofdstuk worden het organisatieontwerp en het bijbehorende proces besproken die nodig zijn om voor voldoende capaciteit voor patiëntenzorg te zorgen. We presenteren voorbeelden van complexe capaciteitsbeslissingen bij elke planningshorizon (dat wil zeggen van strategisch tot realtime niveau) en van capaciteitsbeslissingen die centraal op ziekenhuisniveau of decentraal op afdelingsniveau worden genomen. Ten slotte signaleren we de behoefte aan verticale en horizontale integratie binnen en tussen afdelingen. Daarnaast beschrijft dit hoofdstuk aan de hand van een voorbeeld het gebruik van de Hoshin Kanri-methode om zo’n integratie in het ziekenhuissysteem mogelijk te maken. Al deze aspecten staan in het teken van het realiseren van de visie waarvoor capaciteitsmanagement wordt ingezet: ‘Patiënten die zorg krijgen op het juiste tijdstip, op de juiste plaats en door de juiste zorgprofessionals.’
