Abstract

Samenvatting In veel ziekenhuizen is de verpleegkundige capaciteit voor de verschillende verpleegafdelingen historisch gegroeid. Er vinden evenwel veranderingen plaats in medische behandelingen en verpleegkundige capaciteit dient daarom geregeld aangepast te worden. De verpleegindex, een ratio waarmee een relatie kan worden uitgedrukt tussen verpleegkundige capaciteit en bedgebruik, speelt als normgetal daarin een belangrijke rol. In dit hoofdstuk wordt een model gepresenteerd waarmee op relatief eenvoudige wijze inzicht kan worden verkregen in de benodigde verpleegkundige capaciteit in relatie tot de bedbezetting. Naast de verpleegratio’s vormen de historische bedbezetting per dag en per uur, en gegevens over inzetbaarheid per fte de invoer van het model. De uitvoer van het model is het aantal benodigde verpleegkundigen voor een afdeling. In dit hoofdstuk wordt de achtergrond van de verpleegindex beschreven, en het gebruik ervan in een capaciteitsmodel. Daarnaast wordt aangegeven hoe het model een rol kan spelen in operationele, tactische en strategische beslissingen met betrekking tot verpleegkundige capaciteit op verpleegafdelingen.
